About Us
Welcome to Howeana
Howeana is owned and operated by fifth generation Islander Anne Kennedy and her husband Tim. Anne is a direct descendent of Nathan Thompson, one of the island's earliest settlers. She is a member of the Whistler family, who have been in the hospitality business on Lord Howe since the 1950s. Tim, a carpenter/artist, originally from Sydney, established the Howeana Gallery from where he sold his art and unique finely-finished souvenirs made from local wood and shells.
The Gallery closed in 2005 when Anne and Tim, with sons Daniel and Vincent, temporarily relocated to Avalon on Sydney's northern beaches so the boys could attend Barrenjoey High School. They currently divide their time between the two places. This close tie to a part of Sydney, famous for its beachhouses, is reflected in the casual comfort and ambience you'll experience at this quality boutique property.
Howeana was designed by Sydney architect Col Griffiths, and built by Michael Scott of Complete Carpentry P/L, Turramurra, with his son Jack and a dedicated team.
